Texas State AED Requirements

Good Samaritan Law:

• Individuals acting in good faith, including AED trainers, users, and prescribing physicians, are protected from liability under the law.
• AED acquirers, owners, and lessees complying with code requirements also enjoy liability protection.

AED Training:

• AED acquirers must ensure that users receive CPR/AED training.
• They are also responsible for notifying local EMS about the AED's existence, location, and type.

AED Maintenance:

• Owners or lessees of AEDs must adhere to maintenance and testing procedures outlined by the manufacturer.

Medical Oversight:

• Each AED program requires oversight by a licensed physician to ensure compliance with regulations.

Schools:

• Each school campus must have at least one AED, and during student gatherings, an AED and a trained employee must be readily accessible.
• Students in grades 7-12 must undergo CPR training.

Dental Offices / Nursing Homes / Extended Care Facilities:

• Each facility must have at least one AED, and CPR/AED-trained staff should be present.

Nursing Facilities:

• Nursing facilities need at least one AED and a CPR/AED-trained staff member on each floor and in each building, with physician oversight required.

Swimming Pools:

• AEDs are mandatory at swimming pools and lagoons, with lifeguards equipped with portable AEDs and BVMs for quick access.
